On Saturday, as part of our pitch up to Rugby event, Erdingtons senior team hosted a strong Camp Hill squad.
After a nervy start that saw Camp hill score an early try down the wing, Erdington came to life and responded with a try, which was fantastically run in by Andrew Bricknall. (Not the last we would see of him today!) The conversion was easily slotted by the right boot of Tom Findon.
The game continued in a back and forth that saw 3 more tries run in by Joe Ellor, Jay and Bricknall. Shout out to Tom Findons’ who had a great game kicking from the tee (100% conversion rate) and out of hand, fantastically exploiting the new 50-22 rules. Our forwards were also very busy in a brutal clash up front against a considerably larger Camp hill pack.
The final quarter was a nervy affair with us working hard to hold onto a 4 point lead to end the game 28-24!
Props to all the lads for a hard fought win, but special mentions go to Andrew Bricknall for 2 marvellous tries, Chris Jones and Chris Hume for a ferocious display on the flanks, Joe Eyles for absolutely smashing anyone who broke our defensive line and Tom Findon for his excellent use of his boot and for 2 assists.
Our man of the match goes to Jay. He worked his socks off the entire game and not only scored but was lethal every time he saw the ball displaying excellent creativity, vision and explosive pace!
It was a pleasure to watch and to coach and I was immensely proud of the gritty performance that showed the ‘never say die’ Erdington attitude!
