Erdington RFC secure the win at Aldridge RFC
As the World Cup kicked off, Erdington’s season continued with a trip to Aldridge 2nd XV for a friendly. After last week’s win against Old Salts they wanted to carry on their strong start to the season. With a good strong turn out and the sun shining Erdington wanted to put in a solid performance. A quick score from Matt McLaughlin, adding to his two tries from last week, saw them take an early lead. As the conversion was missed the score was 0-5.
After an injury delay Erdington continued to apply pressure with Cleggy scoring after a couple of phases. The kick was converted to take the score to 0-12!!!!
On 35 minutes a quickly taken tap penalty for Aldridge saw them reduce the deficit. With the kick missed Erdington maintained a one score lead.
Just before half time Erdington won their line out and followed it with quick play between the back, resulting in a space opening up in the middle for Andy Bricknall to score under the posts. Converted (5-19).
HALF TIME SCORE 5-19.
The second half continued with Erdington applying pressure which resulted in a 5 meter scrum. Ross Graham would pick the ball from the back of the scrum and carry over and score. Converted, score 5-26.
From the restart, Aldridge got the ball and a good line from their centre saw him score under the posts. A missed conversion kept the score at 10-26.
As Aldridge edged towards the Erdington line again, an interception from Joe Ellor on his own 22 saw Erdington score as Aldridge were beginning to build momentum. A converted kick saw them extend the lead to 10-33.
Erdington continued to extend their lead as they managed to steal a lineout on the half way line and followed by quick hands Ross Graham scored a second for the game. Missed conversion, score 10-38.
From the restart Erdington were unable to secure the ball and Aldridge made them pay with a solid drive over the line. Conversion missed, score 15-38.
Aldridge scores again as a well worked scrum on the 22 saw them power over the line. Missed conversion 20-38.
Erdington ended the game as they started and following a good interchange down the left wing Dan Moran would score under the posts. With the kick converted as the ref blew the final whistle Erdington took a deserved 20-45 win.
