Erdingtons game with Aston was in serious jeopardy up until about 12:00 on Saturday morning, as Erdingtons pitch was unplayable due to the inclement weather. However after a number of conversations between both club captains, Reg from Aston and Luke, they very kindly offered to switch the venue and allow the game to played at Astons ground.
Unfortunately before kick off Aston had to forfeit the game as they could not provide a front row and so Erdington took the points by default.
Aston however we’re happy to play the game with numbers short and uncontested scrums Erdington lent a player to Aston to even up the numbers.
The game kicked off and from the start it was clear that with the extra numbers, this wasn’t going to be any easy afternoon for the Aston team with Erdington running in six try’s in the first half to Aston’s one, however Aston never gave up. Erdington turned the screw throughout the game and with some great support work between both forwards and backs the try count kept increasing with a further 6 try’s scored by Erdington in the second half. Erdingtons coaching staff were very impressed with the workmen like performance from all players on a tough day when the game had already been won and the commitment from all.
Moment of the match must go to loose head prop Joe Prosser who took the ball from within his 22 meter line and ran the full length of the pitch, with a couple of hand offs he scored under the posts.
Man of the match was again a really difficult decision made by the coaches as a number of players stood out on the day, however with a hat trick of try’s and his control of the game the award goes to Dan Thewlis.
