Match Report

Back home, still winning!

After a recent run of away form Erdington returned to Spring Lane and welcomed Spartans 3rds in the Greater Birmingham Merit League.

After a tough opening to the game Erdington scored the first points as Pav kicked a penalty from 25 yards. He added a further three points with another penalty shortly after from a similar position after being denied a try due to a forward pass.

Pav was able to add to his points tally after half an hour through a quickly taken penalty. With the conversion missed Erdington took an eleven point lead.

They increased the lead further when Joe Ellor managed to get space down the left before cutting in to score close to the posts. The conversion was missed making the score 16-0.

Just before half time Spartans put pressure on the Erdington try line but even when they crossed the line, the ball was held up. The scrums and pressure continued but Erdington made it into half time without conceding.

HALF TIME SCORE 16-0.

Soon after the restart, Joe Ellor intercepted the ball close to the Spartans line to get his second of the game. The conversion was missed making the score 21-0.

Mid way through the second half, with both teams struggled to maintain possession, Spartans would make a break through to score under the posts. They were able to convert this to reduce the deficit to 21-7.

Erdington responded with Ross Graham going down the right getting the score to 26-7 as the conversion was missed.

From the restart Pav collected the ball and ran through middle to eventually score under the posts. This was converted for a 33-7 scoreline.

Spartans later scored a second try with a move off the back of a scrum. Unable to convert the score line was 33-12.

Erdington closed out the match strongly as they were able to score through Sam Bradley following a quickly taken penalty. With the conversion missed the final score was 38-12.

With two tries, two penalties and a conversion Pav was named man of the match.

With a week’s rest until the next game Erdington will look to build on their momentum as they continue their league campaign against Woodrush 2XV.
