On Saturday afternoon Erdington hosted Veseyans 2nd team in our penultimate league game.
The game started at a good pace with both teams making forays into both halves.
The dead lock was broke 15 minutes into the first half with winger J spotting it down in the left corner to make the game 5-0. The try went unconverted.
After the score Veseyans asked some serious questions of the Erdington defense but they stood firm until a particularly ambitious Veseyans 10 decided to try his hand at a drop goal, which to everyone’s disbelief he slotted straight through the uprights!
The teams turned around at half time with the score 5-3.
The second half started with a war of attrition with both teams taking turn a to attack but both defenders were looking strong.
20 minutes into the second half Erdington made a great break and we’re able to release J who grounded the ball to get his second try of the afternoon and to make it his 10th score of the season. This was converted by a great kick from Dan Moran to make it 12-3.
The game ended after a dominant final 10 that saw erdington camped in the oppositions territory.
It was a great performance by the whole team and an incredible effort by all players who saw the field for Erdington!
Special mentions go out to the 3 debutants Fauzu, Duncan and Shaheel who all showed great heart and a lot of potential in their first outing.
Other mentions go to Diako for another strong performace from 15, making some great decisions and runs, Cleggy who played a beautifully aggressive 78 minutes with some huge runs and that distinctive handoff, also to ERFC Captain Luke who managed the game well as skipper.
But todays MOTM goes to J who bagged himself a brace. On top of some fantastic running on the ball and his defensive play was flawless and a real pleasure to watch.
