- Why did you start playing rugby?
I started by chance / by luck.
I had decided to get my son involved in rugby during the Summer holidays, and ERFC were running a Summer Club at Spring Lane. Whilst there, one of the other dads suggested coming along to the adults & dads training on a Tuesday night for fitness. Little did I know, he was the team “Hooker – Phil Hanford” and before I knew it, I was a part of the team and family at ERFC and playing rugby.
- How long have you played for ERFC?
Just this season, but hopefully it’ll be the start of many more.
- Why did you choose Erdington RFC?
It kind of chose me! After all, it all started because of my son. However, it does help with the club and pitch being within walking distance from my home (2 minutes walk).
- Any pre-match routines/habits?
Yeah, picking my son up from Polish School and then rushing back to get to the pitch, warm up and stretch on-time, ready for the game.
- Best rugby memory?
Apart from Jonny Wilkinson’s drop-goal in extra time to win the 2003 Rugby World Cup Final…
It’s got to be, when I first stepped out on the pitch wearing the ERFC shirt and making my first proper tackle for the club – somethings you just can’t explain.
- As a back, what’s your opinion on the ERFC forwards?
Incredible! I don’t think the lads have lost a scrum yet.
