Welcome to Spitfires Touch Rugby Club

About Us

Welcome to Spitfires Touch Rugby Club. We are a mixed touch rugby club based in Birmingham.  Formed in 2021 we have grown into a large social, inclusive and competitive developing team for all ages and abilities from ex-contact players to people who have never even picked up a rugby ball – all are welcome!

What’s Touch Rugby

Touch Rugby is a simple, but fast paced game for all ages and abilities with no contact.  Instead of making tackles, we make touches on any part of the body, clothing or ball. Each team has 6 players on the field at a time and they have six attempts to try and score a try (unless a turnover is awarded, then the ball goes to the other team).  Passes are only allowed backwards to move forwards and its fantastic for cardio fitness, confidence and loads of fun.

Flaming June (1)

June was a busy month for the Spitfires.  We’ve trained in the sun and are enjoying the warmer weather.  This month we had a mixture of social events and games.  We started strong competing at a Tournament raising money for Worcester Warriors Foundation.  The day saw Minty’s signature move, Tristan scored and some fabulous teams and we even came home with medals!

On a social side Dave Louge arranged a day out playing golf at Pype Hayes (which unfortunately got rained off) and the club celebrated its Centenary at Castle Bromwich Hall Gardens.  All sections from the club came together to celebrate.  Boots and kit were changed for shirts, ties, heels and dresses.

We also ventured over to Old Sihilians for a friendly match.  We combined teams and played a few fast and furious games.  This months players of the week were Tristan, Jon, Louge and Gemma.  Well done guys!

We are looking forward *fingers crossed* to a long hot summer of touch rugby and hope to see those Spitfires shirts on tour as the team go on holiday.

Our next fixture is a friendly with Erdington First/Contact Team on 13 July at Spring Lane.
